Smooth & Tighten

A neck lift is a surgical procedure that smooths and tightens the neck’s skin, which can sag from aging or weight loss. It provides a more defined jawline and eliminates the “bands” that often appear with age.

A neck lift can be performed alone or as a transformative part of a full facelift. Ideal candidates are in good physical and emotional health, seeking long-lasting results that can endure for up to 10 years.

The Components: There are two main parts to a neck lift: cervicoplasty, which removes excess skin, and platysmaplasty, which removes or tightens the underlying muscles.

The Neck Lift Procedure

Depending on your needs, Dr. Ajibade will perform one or both surgical components to achieve a refined, youthful contour.

  • Cervicoplasty
Targets sagging skin. Excess tissue is meticulously trimmed away and lifted for a smooth, taut appearance.
  • Platysmaplasty
Addresses muscle laxity. Dr. Ajibade tightens the underlying neck muscles to eliminate prominent “bands” and create internal support.
  • Strategic Liposuction
If needed, liposuction is performed before the lift to remove excess fat and further refine the jawline contour.

Recovery & Care

Most neck lifts are performed on an outpatient basis and take 2 to 4 hours. Swelling and bruising are normal and can last up to 10 days.

Applying cold compresses and keeping the head elevated for the first 48 hours is essential. You should avoid turning or twisting your head for the first few days to protect the new contours.

Return to Life

  • Timeline
Most patients return to work and normal daily activities within 2 weeks once bruising has subsided.
  • Sutures
Bandages are removed after a few days; sutures are typically removed within 7 to 10 days post-surgery.
  • Physical Activity
While light movement is encouraged, more strenuous activities should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.

Risks & Expectations

Although rare, potential risks include scarring, excessive bleeding, hematoma, tissue death, blood clots, numbness, or skin discoloration. A more serious but very rare complication is facial nerve damage which can lead to muscle paralysis.

While Dr. Ajibade uses small, inconspicuous incisions, scarring is a factor in any surgery. However, these are strategically placed to be virtually invisible once healed. A neck lift provides significant rejuvenation that can last up to 10 years.
