Reduction Mammaplasty in Bellaire & River Oaks, TX

Restore Your Comfort & Proportion

Women who are unhappy about having large breasts and/or want to treat symptoms such as back pain, breathing problems, and poor posture may benefit from reduction mammaplasty. During this procedure, fat, glandular tissue, and skin are removed to achieve a more balanced silhouette.

Ideal candidates are women with oversized breasts that are causing medical problems, low self-esteem, and/or physical or social discomfort. The resultant smaller breasts increase patient comfort and look more in proportion to the rest of the body.

Important Note: Women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding cannot undergo reduction mammaplasty at this time.

The Reduction Procedure

Reduction mammaplasty is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes between 2 to 5 hours. Depending on your anatomy and goals, one of the following incision techniques is utilized:

  • Peri-Areolar (Two Rings)
Two rings are made, one larger than the other, entirely around the areola to minimize visible scarring.
  • Lollipop (Keyhole Shape)
An incision is made around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease, allowing for significant reshaping.
  • Anchor Shape (Inverted T)
Beginning in the breast crease and extending vertically up and around the areola, this is used for maximum tissue removal.
  • Liposuction Option
Liposuction alone is sometimes used for patients with more fatty than glandular tissue, leaving little-to-no scarring.

Recovery & Results

After reduction mammaplasty, patients typically experience soreness, swelling, and bruising for several days. Bandages are removed after 2 days and replaced with a supportive surgical bra.

Results are noticeable immediately after surgery and continue to improve as swelling subsides. Scars fade with time and are usually discreetly hidden beneath standard low-cut tops or swimwear.

Recovery Timeline

  • 1-2 Weeks
Limit physical activity and take necessary rest to allow the initial incisions to heal properly.
  • 2-3 Weeks
Stitches are typically removed, and most patients can return to work and regular daily routines.
  • 4 Weeks+
Strenuous exercise and high-intensity activity may be resumed once cleared by your surgeon.

Understanding the Risks

In addition to general surgical risks, complications specific to reduction mammaplasty include loss of sensation, asymmetry, excessive firmness, and scarring. In some cases, there may be an inability to breastfeed or partial loss of the areola and nipple.

Reduction mammaplasty provides long-lasting results that can permanently improve your quality of life. However, keep in mind that breasts are still subject to the natural effects of gravity and aging over time.
