Rhytidectomy in Bellaire & River Oaks, TX

Woman with long black hair.

Counteract the Signs of Aging

Over time, gravity and sun exposure take their toll on the face and neck. Deep creases appear, the jawline slackens, and the neck develops loose folds. Rhytidectomy (facelift) counteracts these signs of aging by tightening muscle, removing fat, and trimming excess skin.

Rhytidectomy improves the look of the lower and middle areas of the face and neck. To achieve comprehensive rejuvenation, it is often combined with other procedures such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or skin resurfacing.

Effective Correction: A facelift is most effective for addressing mid-face sagging, deep creases under the eyes, nasolabial folds, jowls, and loose skin under the chin and jaw.

Ideal Candidates

The best candidates for a facelift are generally healthy individuals who want to correct signs of aging while still possessing skin elasticity.

  • Realistic Expectations
Candidates should have a clear understanding of what rhytidectomy can achieve for their unique facial structure.
  • Health & Lifestyle
Ideal patients do not smoke and are in good overall physical and emotional health to ensure optimal healing.
  • Intrinsic Motivation
It is essential that the patient is pursuing surgery for personal satisfaction rather than outside social pressure.

Types of Rhytidectomy

Rhytidectomy is typically performed as an outpatient procedure taking about 2 hours. We offer two primary techniques tailored to your facial structure and desired extent of correction.

  • Traditional Rhytidectomy
A “full” facelift that rejuvenates the face, jowls and neck. It includes sculpting fat, lifting deeper tissues, and re-draping skin with incisions hidden in the hairline.
  • Limited-Incision Rhytidectomy
Focuses on the area around the eyes and mouth, reducing nasolabial folds and deep creases with shorter incisions at the temples and ears.

Recovery & Recovery

After the procedure, incisions are wrapped in bandages. Any stitches or surgical clips are typically removed 1 week after surgery.

Most side effects resolve within 3 to 6 weeks. Many patients feel confident returning to work by the third week, utilizing camouflage cosmetics if needed.

Understanding the Risks

Possible complications include bleeding, infection, bruising, swelling, or discoloration. Other risks include nerve injury or temporary/permanent loss of sensation in the face. Smokers should be aware of an increased risk for skin blistering.

Results are not permanent as aging continues, but effects are long-lasting. Many patients choose to undergo another procedure in 5 to 10 years, though the face continues to look better than if surgery had never been performed.
