Achieve Your Perfect Pout

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that, either surgically or with injections, increases lip size. Either the upper or lower lip, or both, can be augmented to improve symmetry and restore youthful volume.

Whether the results are temporary or permanent depends on the type of augmentation performed. There are several different techniques for augmenting lips, ranging from non-surgical dermal fillers to permanent implants or natural fat grafting.

The Choice: Which type of augmentation is used depends upon the individual patient, surgeon preference, and the specific cosmetic results desired.

Techniques for Lip Augmentation

We offer a range of specialized treatments to help you achieve the volume and definition you desire.

  • Injectable Fillers
Typically containing hyaluronic acid (HA), fillers are injected in-office under topical anesthesia. Results are immediate and usually last 3 to 4 months.
  • Fat Transfers (Fat Grafting)
Fat is obtained from your own body using liposuction, purified, and then injected into the lips for long-lasting, natural restoration.
  • Lip Implants
Synthetic implants made of soft, solid-silicone elastomer are inserted through tiny incisions at the corners of the lips for permanent volume.

The Surgical Process

Dermal filler treatments are the most efficient, often performed in under 30 minutes with minimal downtime. Fat transfers and implants are more involved surgical options.

For fat transfers, fat is obtained via liposuction, filtered, and then precisely injected. For implants, incisions are made at the corners of the lips, and the elastomer is placed under the skin before closing with stitches.

Recovery & Results

  • Short-Term Healing
With injectables, return to normal activities in 1-2 days. Fat transfers and implants typically require up to 2 weeks for swelling to subside.
  • Longevity of Results
Fillers require maintenance every 3-4 months. Fat transfers provide long-term results, while implants provide a permanent volume solution.
  • Immediate Impact
You will notice an immediate improvement in the shape and fullness of your lips right after the chosen procedure.

Risks & Considerations

Lip augmentation is considered a safe procedure. However, possible side effects include temporary bleeding, infection, asymmetry, numbness, nerve damage, swelling, and scarring. These are discussed in detail during your initial consultation.

While injectables are faster and non-surgical, they require repeat treatments. Fat transfers utilize your body’s own tissue for a more natural integration and often provide permanent results, though some fat reabsorption may necessitate minor touch-ups.
