Labial Reduction & Reshaping in Bellaire & River Oaks, TX

Woman

Improve Appearance & Reduce Discomfort

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that is performed on the labia major (the outer lips of the vagina) and/or the labia minor (the inner lips of the vagina). It is used to reduce the size of labia that are too large, and to reshape labia that are uneven, improving their appearance and reducing associated discomfort.

A relatively minor surgical procedure, it is performed for cosmetic, hygienic, pain-relief and/or functional reasons by qualified plastic surgeons or specialized medical professionals.

Customized Care: Labiaplasty can be performed alone or in conjunction with procedures such as vaginoplasty and liposuction to fully address your aesthetic and functional goals.

Ideal Candidates

Candidates for labiaplasty may not like the appearance of their labia, or may be experiencing discomfort that interferes with their daily life. Candidates should be in good overall health to ensure safe healing.

  • Irritation & Pain
Bothered by labial irritation while conducting normal activities, or experiencing pain during sexual intercourse or vigorous activity.
  • Hygiene
Finding it difficult to keep the labial area clean due to excess tissue.
  • Appearance
Seeking to reduce the size of labia that are too large, or to reshape labia that are uneven for improved self-confidence.
  • Family Planning
It is highly recommended that candidates are not planning on having (more) children, because the birthing process can cause operated-on tissue to reopen.

The Surgical Process

Labiaplasty is generally performed just after the patient has had her period. The procedure typically takes 1 to 2 hours, and most patients return home the same day.

  • Anesthesia
The patient receives anesthesia or IV sedation, as well as medications to block nerve signals and minimize bleeding.
  • Reshaping
The surgeon trims, using scissors, a scalpel or laser, the excess labial tissue to achieve the desired shape and size.
  • Closing
The incision is meticulously closed with absorbable stitches, and antibiotic cream is applied to protect the area.

Recovery Expectations

Post-labiaplasty, most patients have swelling, and mild-to-moderate pain, for which painkillers are prescribed.

Patients typically return to work in 2 to 4 days, and are able to use tampons or resume sexual activity in 6 weeks.

Post-Operative Care
  • Take prescribed painkillers to manage mild-to-moderate discomfort.
  • Carefully wash the area and use antibiotic creams as directed to prevent infection.
  • Strictly avoid tampons and sexual activity for the full 6-week recovery window.
