Buttock Augmentation
Gluteoplasty in Bellaire & River Oaks, TX

Achieve Fullness & Projection
Buttock augmentation (a type of gluteoplasty) is performed to enlarge, and possibly reshape, buttocks that have not responded to diet or exercise.
Candidates for buttock augmentation are unhappy with the lack of fullness, roundness and projection of their buttocks, and/or with having asymmetrical buttocks; they should also have realistic expectations about the results that surgery can provide.
The Trend: Significantly more women than men seek to have their buttocks augmented, but in recent years, the number of men has increased.
Types of Augmentation
Buttock augmentation is usually performed with implants or fat transfer, or a combination of the two. Which method is used depends primarily on the shape and size of the buttocks, the skin’s quality and elasticity, and the amount of body fat available for transfer.
Surgical Methods
Implants involve incisions made in the gluteal crease, overlying the tailbone, or between the buttocks. Drains are usually inserted to prevent fluid buildup for about 7 days. Final results are evident after 3 months once implants have “settled.”
Fat transfer involves liposuction using a cannula to remove excess fat, which is injected into the buttocks at different depths. It can take up to a year to see final results as the fat is fully integrated.
Important Consideration
A downside of the fat-transfer method is that the body naturally reabsorbs part of the fat over time, meaning some initial fullness is lost. Patients tend to retain 60 to 80 percent of the transferred fat.
Recovery & Results
After buttock augmentation with fat transfer or implants, a compression garment must be worn for 2 to 3 weeks. Patients typically experience pain, bruising, and swelling.
