Refresh Your Youthful Gaze

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is a plastic surgery procedure for correcting sagging or drooping eyelids. Because the eyelid skin is much thinner than other parts of the face, it is often one of the first areas to exhibit signs of aging.

Eyelids that sag or droop can affect peripheral vision, making daily activities such as driving more difficult. Blepharoplasty tightens the muscles and tissue, removes excess fat and skin, and restores a refreshed, youthful appearance.

The Impact: Beyond aesthetics, blepharoplasty eliminates the drooping of skin into the visual field, which can greatly improve peripheral vision and overall visual quality.

Who is a Good Candidate?

Best candidates are in good overall health, non-smokers, and have healthy facial tissue and muscle. Those with certain eye diseases, thyroid disorders, or high blood pressure should discuss their health history in detail before proceeding.

Functional vs. Cosmetic

Eyelid surgery can be medically necessary or strictly for aesthetic enhancement, depending on your individual needs.

  • Functional Necessity
If eyelids sag into your field of vision, functional surgery may be required. We use the Humphrey Visual Field (HVF) Analyzer to determine if insurance coverage is an option.
  • Cosmetic Enhancement
Performed on upper or lower eyelids to create a younger, refreshed look. Does not radically alter the face but provides significant self-confidence boosts.
  • Transconjunctival Approach
For the lower eyelid, incisions are often made inside the lid to remove fat deposits, resulting in no visible scarring whatsoever.
  • Comprehensive Rejuvenation
Treatment can be performed on the upper lid, lower lid, or both simultaneously to achieve total eye rejuvenation.

The Surgical Procedure

Blepharoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure requiring local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure takes between 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the extent of work needed.

  • Upper Eyelid
An incision is made in the natural crease. Fat is repositioned/removed, muscles are tightened, and excess skin is trimmed.
  • Lower Eyelid
An incision is made just below the lash line to remove skin or inside the lid (transconjunctival) to remove fat without external scars.
  • Discreet Closing
Incisions are closed with fine sutures, tissue glue, or surgical tape and covered with gauze to ensure optimal healing.

Recovery & Aftercare

  • Timeline
Return to work in a few days. Stitches are removed in 3-4 days. Avoid strenuous exercise for 2 weeks.
  • Daily Care
Apply lubricating drops and cold compresses to minimize swelling. Wear dark sunglasses outside for 2 weeks.
  • Restrictions
Contact lenses and eye makeup should be avoided for a minimum of 2 weeks post-surgery.
