Renew & Rejuvenate

Modern technology provides a variety of successful laser resurfacing treatments for improving the condition of the skin. Laser skin treatments employ focused beams of light energy to counteract the effects on the skin of acne, aging, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, scars, or poor nutrition.

Much less invasive than dermabrasion and chemical peels, laser treatments remove damaged skin and rejuvenate your appearance. While often sought for the face, these treatments may also be performed on other parts of the body.

The Result: Resurfacing laser treatments are safe and efficient, requiring little downtime to provide highly effective aesthetic results.

Reasons for Treatment

Patients seek laser resurfacing for a variety of reasons, all related to improving the health and appearance of their complexion. We can customize the laser intensity to address your specific goals.

Decrease wrinkles & stretchmarks | Diminish scars | Remove age spots & spider veins | Repair sun damage | Improve skin tone | Decrease enlarged pores

Types of Laser Resurfacing

  • Ablative Laser Resurfacing
Penetrates deeply to remove a layer of skin. This provides more dramatic results and requires fewer sessions, but requires a longer period of healing.
  • Non-Ablative Resurfacing
Uses laser energy to stimulate collagen growth and tighten underlying skin without burning away tissue. It is gentler, requires less downtime, and is highly recommended for people of color.
  • Fractional Ablative Laser
Targets specific regions with pinpoint microbeams that peel away smaller areas of skin. It offers the best of both worlds: noticeable results with less downtime than conventional ablative treatments.
  • The Procedure
Typically performed in the doctor’s office with topical anesthesia, taking between 30 and 90 minutes. Some patients see significant results after one treatment, while others may require multiple sessions.

Recovery & Downtime

Recovery from laser resurfacing procedures varies according to the particular procedure undergone and the individual patient’s skin type.

In all cases, however, patients who have undergone these treatments should avoid sun exposure wherever possible during the healing process. Our team will guide you through the specific aftercare protocols for your customized laser treatment.

Post-Treatment Care

  • Non-Ablative Healing
Patients may experience redness and peeling for several days. Normal activities can be resumed quickly, and makeup may be applied to camouflage any redness.
  • Ablative Healing
Treated skin will temporarily be raw and swollen. A thick ointment will be applied. Visible healing may take a week or two, and patients should avoid strenuous activities.
  • Symptom Relief
Ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers can ease discomfort. Patients are instructed to gently clean the treated area as directed to assist in the healing process.

Risks & Expectations

Although laser skin treatment is considered safe for most patients and is typically performed with no long-term complications, rare risks may include infection, scarring, prolonged redness, pigmentation changes, acne, or milia (tiny white bumps on the skin).

Once new skin covers the treated area and any residual redness fades, you will see the final outcome. When healing is complete, the skin’s appearance will be dramatically improved in tone, texture, and tightness.
