Breast Augmentation
Enhance your natural curves in Bellaire & River Oaks, TX

Enhance Your Natural Curves
Augmentation mammaplasty (breast enlargement) is performed to increase breast size and/or fix breast asymmetry. Candidates include women who want larger breasts, and those who want to restore the breast volume often lost as a result of pregnancy or significant weight loss.
At DVA Plastic Surgery, breasts can be enlarged with highly advanced implants or by utilizing your body’s own natural fat through transplantation.
Important Note
Augmentation mammaplasty is not a substitute for mastopexy, which is a procedure designed specifically to “lift” breasts that sag significantly.
Two Approaches to Augmentation
Augmentation with Implants
Silicone and saline are the two implant types most commonly used. Silicone implants feel more like natural breasts than saline ones. However, if a saline implant ruptures, the saline is naturally absorbed by the body. Types of implants we offer include “gummy bear,” round, smooth, and textured.
The procedure lasts 1 to 2 hours and is typically performed with general anesthesia (local with a sedative may also be used). Incisions are made in inconspicuous places—in the armpit, the breast crease, or around the areola—to minimize scar visibility.
Placement Options
Behind Chest Muscle
Reduces risk of capsular contracture and interferes less with mammograms. May require drains and a longer recovery.
Beneath Breast Tissue
Breasts move more naturally with chest muscle use. Can also help correct slight breast sagging.
Augmentation with Fat Transfer
Augmentation mammaplasty with fat transplantation uses liposuction to harvest excess fat from other parts of the body, which is then purified and injected into the breasts.
This is ideal for women who are not looking for a dramatic increase in breast size, but want breasts that look and feel as natural as possible. For a number of weeks prior to the procedure, tissue expanders may be placed to increase the amount of fat the breasts can hold.
This comprehensive procedure, taking approximately 4 to 5 hours, addresses two concerns at once: contouring donor areas while naturally enhancing the breasts.
Procedure Note: Fat is harvested via a thin cannula using vacuum suction. It is then carefully purified and injected on the same day.
Recovery Expectations
After Implant Surgery
Drainage tubes may be inserted. Incisions are stitched, taped, and bandaged, and a surgical bra is worn to minimize swelling and support the breasts.
- Tired and sore for a few days; return to work within a week.
- Stitches removed in 1 week to 10 days.
- Swelling/sensitivity diminish over weeks; scars fade over months.
After Fat Transplantation
Recovery time is generally short, with normal activities being resumed as soon as the patient feels comfortable.
- Faster overall recovery timeline.
- Compression garments worn over the liposuction donor areas.
